Here’s a “blast” from the past: a painting I did based on my design for the 2014 Portland Zine Symposium poster. This appeared in an art show at Floating World Comics in coordination with PZS last month.
This month I came down with a rare summer flu and was bedridden with a fever for several days. In a desperate attempt to feel productive, I dragged a lightbox into bed with me and banged out this quick and dirty animation. The influence of watching “The Moomins” and the new “Cosmos” all day and night caused my feverish mind to dream up this strange caricature of Sir Isaac Newton.
Credit is due to Julianna Green and Sean Christensen for peer-pressuring me into making animation for the first time in almost 8 years! The tools I used were Sean’s lightbox, a stack of index cards, a micron pen, my terrible iPod camera, and a freeware GIF editor.
This weekend’s Portland Zine Symposium saw the release of “Friends from Far Away” vol. 2, a printed compilation of our travel comics covering Sweden & Denmark. If you missed your chance to grab a copy at the Symposium, never fear - drop us a line and we’ll send one your way. :)

Hello friends! For the last few weeks we’ve been hard at work putting our travel comics into print, and we’re excited to announce that the first installment will debut this weekend at Olympia Comics Festival! “Friends From Far Away” vol. 1 collects our favorite moments from the first leg of our journey, and includes some “print-exclusive” material. If you’d like a copy but can’t make it to Olympia, drop us a line and we’ll make it happen - even if you’re halfway ‘round the world. :)
